In my unit ALL staff is required to be NRP certified. It is absoluteley
important for a birthplace to have all staff certified. I have been in situations
a few times through the years where I have helped or been the one to start
working with a baby in trouble. Our Neonatal Nurse Practicioner comes to our
rescue pretty quickly, as does an NICU nurse but without knowing NRP wasted
minutes could mean the diffierence between a bad or good outcome for a baby. Many
of our staff complain about the "Grid" we have to follow, the grid is our
list of mandatory courses/classes we need to keep updated with in order to keep
our jobs in my unit. But I think our patients are some of the luckiest in our
county to have such well trained staff!
