Hi everyone.  I have been following the posts about epidurals and have a
question. We have a high epidural rate and of course few natural births.
The nurses are good here about getting babies to the breast within one hour
and most babies will do well with the first feed.  When I come in the
morning I like to check the feeding histories in the computer before I
visit mom and sure enough most babies nurse well at first feed and then the
next 24 hours are interesting.  I know this pattern can be normal.

If epidurals cause breastfeeding problems then why do most of these babies
nurse well at the first feeding?  Is the epidural not affecting them within
the first hour?  Or does it have more to do with the fact that babies
haven't been separated for very long in the first hour so the effects don't
show up until later?  Thanks.  :-)
