 "...with an eye toward
the feeding part instead of the nurturing part, or how they interact, I wonder
if we can learn something. When babies are nursed, their needs for warmth,
comfort, temp regulation assist, stress relief, breathing coordination, calming,
hydration and food are all met ( when mom doesn't treat nursing like
bottlfeeding with breasts.) So when babies are bottlefed by a person who has no
body-mind experience of the myriad needs met by breastfeeding, many things become
dissociated, as well as different than the norm achieved by nursing. "

Reminds me of the new mom I saw feeding her baby in the bowling alley. Baby, estm 2-3mos old, was in a new, large stroller, facing the bowling lanes. Baby was strapped in, blanketed, & the sun hood was fully extended. Mom was sitting on a stool at a high food counter, also facing the bowling lanes. She was leaning over sideways, arm hanging down, hand turned backwards holding the bottom of the bottle, nipple in baby's mouth & sucking. Mom's attention was on the bowlers. Only when baby moved enough to disturb mom's hand, did she look at baby. Once in a while if mom laughed or cheered on the bowlers, she jerked the bottle out of baby's mouth. Talk about a "bucket baby"!!! No sign of emotional attachment there!
