Thanks for bringing me back to where I want to be Phyllis. Yes - you are
so right. It's up to the formula companies to prove that a human baby can
do without lactose and not suffer any morbidity.
Esther how about you arrive with a wad of research papers printed out, put
them on the desk beside you, then say "Well I've found heaps of information
about how important lactose is to infant growth and development
(particularly brain development), now could you please provide me with your
research to prove that excluding such an important component of human
breastmilk in your artificial formula isn't going to harm our
babies? We'll swap papers to read when you've got yours." ... and I'd
make a point of saying that formula company research papers hold less
weight than LLL papers so don't even try that one! And if I was feeling
really brave i might even intimate how scary they must find it promoting a
product that there isn't good research on yet.
We really do have the moral high ground. I just wish I could utilise it
better and stop going on the defensive all the time - it's not me who has
to defend my product!
