There is a patent called "Human lysozyme" at the US Patent & Trademark
Office.
The inventor is Sledziewski et al. and it is assigned to Boehringer. The
abstract states, " The invention relates to a process for preparing human
lysozyme and the human lysozyme protein itself." It was filed in 1994 and by the way
cows do not make this protein in their milk. Of interest is the statement in
the body of the text of the patent:

"Up till now, human milk and human placenta have been the only commercial
sources for obtaining human lysozyme. However, the availability of these starting
materials is very limited and it is obvious that different preparations will
be obtained from one batch to the next. There ought to be advantages in using
the widely developed industrial microbiology and the recently developed
recombinant DNA technology to produce human lysozyme by means of microorganisms."

I wonder what the selling price for a gram of human lysozyme was(is)? We
really have some valuable proteins in our milk. Remember this is a patent owned
by the drug company Boehringer......
Valerie W. McClain, IBCLC..... thinking about relactating to earn my pot of
gold :)

PS Yeah, yeah it's mostly genetically engineered but I have read that the
real stuff works better than the engineered proteins.......
