Dear Lactnetters,
There has been much discussion lately about trans fats and how they
show up in the breastmilk and what effects they can have on humans. Lately I've
been seeing on various food labels: "partially hydrogenated ____ oil and
fully hydrogenated ____ oil". Is the fully hydrogenated oil any less dangerous? I
think I read that the "fully" type does not have an open electron to bind to
other things, so does not react the same way as the "partially" type. Moms
often ask me about what they can and cannot eat, and I'm wondering about this
new labelling and what its implications are. Anyone on this list know if
fully-hydrogenated oils are safe or not?
