Dear Members
My name is Ellen and I am the Lactation Consultant for a hospital here in
Indana. We have a 30 bed NICU which I also cover. I came across a problem
I haven't seen mentioned on Lactnet before. We have a baby here that has
been diagnosed with Bells Palsy. Mom is pumping and wants to nurse but the
baby doesn't even keep good suction on a bottle or pacifier. She roots
opens wide but doesn't latch. I tried to get her ro suck on my finger but
again the full suction you would expect just isn't there. She was
transferred in from a outlying hospital for antibiotic treatment. Any help
or suggestions would be appreciated. I can't find anything that deals with
this problem in any of my books or web searches. Thanks in advance for the
help.
