Dear All,
I was wondering if anyone could point me to the research explaining the difference between personal use pumps such as a mini-electric or PNStyle, as compared to rental and hospital grade.
It is very common practice among low income mothers to share the personal pumps with eachother. They then just change the set. I was under the impression that bacteria can live inside the pump itself, and since the motor itself is not closed, it can shoot back out bacteria even with a new set. I would like to know where and when this research was done, and by who.
For those of you who work in WIC clinics or with other low income populations, is this also common practice to share what should be "personal"?
Is is also true then that being consistent with the IBLCE Code of Ethics, that there is no way to offer a mother a pump trial on either of these pumps as per manufacturers instructions?
Thanks in advance,
Jessica Billowitz, IBCLC
