Nikki says,

I wonder if our concern about fore- and hind milk is an outgrowth of the
dairy industry. Aren't cows only milked twice a day?

I think, actually, it is an outgrowth of the idea that babies have to
breastfeed an equal number of minutes on each side (and preferably no more than 10)
so that babies were whipped off the breast (as opposed to moms "whipping OUT
the breast") after 5-6-7-8 minutes to get equal time on the other side -- thus
leading to the imbalance. Now, of course, we have to opposite problem --
nurses telling moms to ONLY breastfeed on ONE side to make sure the baby gets the
hind milk.
