Here in Israel, formula has made the news again - nothing concrete yet, but
suspect in several infant deaths:

Several infants are currently hospitalized, some of them in serious
condition, with symptoms of an unexplained illness, including neurological
brainstem damage. Three babies have died in the past six months after
having suffered similar symptoms. The four who are hospitalized in
Schneider Children's Hospital in Petach Tikvah are showing signs of
improvement, it was announced this morning. Doctors cannot explain what may
be causing the dangerous condition, but attention is being focused on
Remedia's green-box soy-based milk substitute baby formula - the most
blatant common denominator among the stricken infants.

Health officials have called on consumers to immediately stop using the
Remedia soy-based product, even though they admit that they have no solid
evidence connecting it with the deaths. Health officials emphasized that
the Remedia formula is not suspected of being poisonous, but rather of not
having sufficient vitamins - especially Vitamin B1 - to nourish certain
genetically-disposed babies who relied exclusively on the formula. The
product will be removed from store shelves, and consumers can return and
receive refunds on what they have purchased in the past.
