I had learned about these from the Jack Newman book after I had all my
4 children and so I never got a chance to try these techniques myself (I
also had sore nipples in the beginning with all but it got better as my
babies got bigger and better at nursing).

Anyway, my co-leader's 4th baby took 4 weeks to latch on and start
nursing. I remember giving her the description from the book on how to
latch the baby on this way. Both of us (with 4 children each) felt that
this sounded really unnatural and difficult. My co-leader refered to it
as the "pretzel position" and when she did finally get her son nursing,
it was in the cradle position.

I mean no disrespect here because I know that this type of latch and
positioning can make a world of difference to many moms and babies.
