As a side note, when we were revising The Breastfeeding Answer Book, Dr. Gartner suggested we remove indirect sunlight as a treatment option for jaundice, which we did.  Now I have a clearer understanding of why he suggested this.  One of the most difficult aspects of
updating our knowledge is re-examining those practices that we suggest "because it's always been done."  How much do you want to bet that it'll take another 40 years before our profession totally phases this one out?
