Hi everyone, I want to thank all of you who responded to my call for input re: the baby that came in critically malnourished and hypernatremic. There are many voids in the story. I may never know them all.
The baby was hydrated and given commercial formula during his hospital admission. Mom decided not to pump and rebuild her supply - no changing her mind. Both parents were sold on the goats milk idea. I have followed them and have offered information that I've accumulated from LACTNET etc. They are using evaporated undiluted goats milk and adding the C, E, Folic Acid and Blackstrap Molasses - and Cod Liver Oil in the morning and at night. We reviewed the need of dilution with water since goats milk has a high solute load and the fact that folic acid is already added.
If there is indoctrination in the world of parenting - I have found it. Despite the fact that the baby was sick enough to die, there is (it seems) an impermeable tunnel vision in these folks. They are going to a physician now for follow ups and I have passed all the information on to him. I have learned alot about goats milk! We are still working to get this family to use it properly - since they have made it the diet plan for their baby.
Thanks to all who responded last week. Sue Majoris - IRMC
