Most of the posts to this topic have missed the point:
Kids explore. They aren't careful when they explore. Regulation of children's sleepwear was designed to prevent severe burns and/or death when children explore. They have a fascination with candles, matches, lighters, stoves, etc. Prior to regulation there were 14 deaths a year, due to child mishap -- not necessarily home fires. Since regulation 0 on average. The reduction in injury without death was similarly dramatic. That's in the USA and I checked with our injury prevention coordinator before posting. That's why purchased sleepwear fits snug and tends to be of polyester, nylon or blends. I don't confess to know for sure about flame retardants.
