~~It recommended that people
use twice as much Parkay as they would butter, because Parkay was not only
good tasting, but SO nutritious! Of course, we are now finding that
hydrogenated vegetable fat is far from healthy and nutritious! In fact,
some people think it is one of the most dangerous things in our diets today.~~

it is one of the greatest virtual mysteries to me how many differing online
forums i am involved in can be discussing the same specific topic at the same
time. only last night i received this email on butter vs. margarine. i am
really curious if any of the dietary experts here can verify if it is true! it does
claim that margarine use lowers the quality of breastmilk, which is of course
why i am asking here. ;-)
when i read the posts here about how horrible the SAD (standard american
diet) is and what we can do specifically to eat healthier, i admit i feel
'underwhelmed' w/ knowledge. i would love to know specifically what are the worst and
best foods. especially for bfing moms as i do get asked frequently in my work
with them.
i have been a lacto-ovo vegetarian all my life (until and except during pgc,
when i craved meat!) who has never drunk milk in my life, either. unless you
count infancy - when i had bottles of it mixed w/ PUDDING! (my mom felt i was
too skinny at birth). when i had my 1st son prematurely, my mom was dismayed at
my insistence on exclusive bfing. she asked if i couldn't try to eat pudding
several times a day and see if it 'goes into your milk to help fatten him up'.
you gotta laugh or else you'd cry! :-)
my children have never even tasted soda, commercially prepared fruit juice or
cow's milk and never will while they are little enough for me to decide. they
do eat meat but get fast food maybe once every couple of months. they have
cookies and/or candy very very rarely, they think vegetable juice is a treat...
our peds dentist thinks i am a god(des).
anyway, i have always believed salmon and avacados are 2 excellent foods and
we eat them frequently. i would love more examples, the dietary posts -esp as
they affect bfing and milk composition - have always fascinated me but i've
felt too ignorant to ask for specifics.
~jacqui gruttadauria, who doesn't seem to mind feeling ignorant this morning!~
