Items I try never to leave home without:-):
--The Breastfeeding Atlas (can show the parents what a pinched nipple,
tongue-tie, etc. look like)
--The Diaper Diary (let's talk about poop!)
--a baby doll--mine cost a whopping $ 14 from WalMart--has great flanged
lips
--tubing to make a SNS, along with tweezers and my granny glasses so I can
thread it:-) (not really a teaching tool)
--flashlight--helps to see what baby is doing, esp when mom has large
breasts.
--digital camera, both for clinical slides and for giving the mom a picture
of her own baby positioned at the breast. Parents have loved this.
