Tammy, my suggestion is to get Linda Smith's book on LCs in Private Practice. You will need this information if you want to do some PPLC work or if you want to work for WIC.
The "problem" with volunteering with LLL is that in order to be a Leader there are reprequisites and a training period. Not everyone qualifies. Since only Leaders officially represent LLL, there would be a problem with having a non-Leader help mothers with breastfeeding in the name of LLLI. You could just attend meetings for fun, as a mother, and as a way of seeing bf friendly people now and again.
There may be one IBCLC already, but there is always room for more. Perhaps she needs a vacation sometime and wants LC coverage while she is gone? Perhaps you could do other parts of the county, or the next county over.

LLL Leader
