Sometimes, if a mother who was doing fairly well with nursing tells me
she has recently stopped bf, especially if she seems open to it, and
especially if the bay is young, I will suggest that she can try putting
the baby to the breast when the baby needs to be snuggled, or at night,
and in a sense, "relactate". I mention how babies will often take the
breast better at night or when they are a little sleepy and this is a
good time to try again with bf. I mention that doing so is a GREAT way to
continue that special bonding she has developed. Then I try to mention
how it is VERY possible to build up her supply again.
I always feel a little thrill of victory when these moms DO return to at
least PARTIAL bf, and then go on to enjoy partial bf for 6 months or
longer. Every little bit counts!
Sincerely,
