Dee, you wrote, "So now they are going to be wanting to sell this component
to breastfeeding mothers, and once again making mothers doubt the completeness
of their breastmilk."

Yes, this worked quite well with DHA and AA additives to infant formula. DHA
is also being marketed as a supplement to breastfeeding women. It certainly
is a great marketing strategy. So I am sure that this pattern will continue.

I read at a website for a patent lawyer that pharmaceutical patents are most
likely to become products. I make that comment because I have often
encountered the belief that it's just a patent not a product and therefore why be
concerned. But if we have over 300 patents on using human milk components (more
than likely genetically engineered) to treat cancer, it would seem probable that
at least 1or 2 of these patents are on the market. It is hard to trace
patents to products.

I believe that the statement human milk is the gold standard was originally
intended as a statement in regard to the manufacturing of infant formula.
Therefore since the 80's we have had enormous amounts of research on human milk
components in order to make a better infant formula. Alot of that research has
resulted in the patenting/the claiming of ownership of human milk components.
Interesting, how science has resulted in some men (since most corporations
are run by men) claiming ownership of what women produce naturally. Which
makes one think that we have returned to the age of slavery. Yet these very same
people will espouse the liberation of women and the right of "choice" in
regard to infant feeding. Nothing like having your cake and eating it......
