In my childbirth classes I encourage people to seek second opinions
for all sorts of things. For example, I tell students that when
a doctor says that moms should not nurse because of jaundice or
some other reason, they should seek a second opinion from an LC.

Does anyone know of any literature on second opinions, any research
done on this. How often it is pursued, how often people change their
minds because of a seond opinion, how much of a difference it makes
to the patient, practioners, health care costs?

Any info, references, leads most appreciated.

Thanks,
  Naomi Bar-Yam
