I posted last month that I am working on an article about this piece and
the response to it. I am still collecting letters that people have
written so anyone who kept a copy, I would love to see it.
I too heard the rumor that an editor was fired but have been unable to
verify it. It is definitely still a rumor. Real Simple did send a few
people responses to their letters, but it was the same form letter about
appreciating the hardship of those women who are "unable" to breastfeed
(as if that has anything to do with what appeared in the article). No
official response ever appeared on the web site and there is no mention
of the incident in the September issue. Real Simple has no "Letters to
the Editor" section. The editors who worked on the piece are also still
listed in the masthead of the September issue but given publication
deadlines, that would be true even if one of them had been fired over
the piece.
I am currently querying magazines about publishing my article and will
keep everyone apprised, as promised.
Thanks to all the many women who sent me their letters. Since the
magazine has still not apologized for the piece, I would keep those
letters going.

>In August 2003, "Real Simple" magazine published an article called "What's the Worst Thing That Could Happen..." As in, don't worry if you don't xxx, contrary to what you have thought or been told, the worst things that could happen if you don't do xxx is only yyy. So you can simplify your life by not worrying about doing xxx. One of the points that was addressed was breastfeeding. (ie simplify your life by not bothering with breastfeeding)
