Carrie,
I was a staff nurse in our Special Care Nursery for five years prior to
my present job of coordinating the mothers' milk bank. In addition to
coordinating the bank, I also provide lactation services to our
breastfeeding mothers. My nurse manager was firm on my dress requirement.
She felt that I should no longer wear scrubs as she wanted a visual for the
staff to view me in my new role. I wear street clothes with a lab coat. I
was resistant to this at first as I liked my scrubs and only had a casual
wardrobe! I have to say that I don't mind it now and I have seen a
difference in the way I am viewed by the staff. I am viewed as part of the
team, but unique in the service that I provide.
