I usually chart "adequate" or "inadequate" latch depending on comfort level
and effectiveness of suck/swallow. I am grateful to Jo-Anne for her options in
terminology. Very asute and appropriate expressions to use when describing
breastfeeding. Unfortunately medical charting is usually terse and concise. I
make it point to be as clear and definitive as possible. That doesn't mean that
anyone reads it! But it is there to "CMA."
My work partner and I are lucky that we are able to convey information
to each other that we "understand." Our daily notes to one another are not
stored for archival and don't always contain exactly the same language as the
official medical record. These informal communications are frequently amusing
and are always honest. This is the place to share our hopes, fears and doubts
about a situation!
