Wise ones,
I have been asked, by a former student in my Lamaze class, for information regarding supplying expressed milk for her 3yo son, recently diagnosed with diabetes. She has given her permission to post this to the list. She is currently nursing her 3 month old daughter and wonders if expressed milk would be better for her son than chocolate cow's milk. Not to mention the immunological benefits. I said, certainly!, but her question is how to convince the ped. endocrinologist, dietician, etc., who say there is no way to calculate carbs., etc., and that there is no nutrition provided after 1 year! Mom nursed her son for only 3 months and is determined to nurse her daughter for at least a year, and is very motivated. I have checked the archives and was able to get some general info. but would greatly appreciate more specific info. from any of you with experience dealing with a diabetic toddler. Please feel free to e-mail me privately as well as posting to the list.
Thanks for your help!
