I agree with Catherine Genna - I would work first of all on adjusting this
baby's latch, to get it as asymmetric as possible, with the nipple as far
back in baby's mouth as possible, and I would use lots of breast compression
throughout the feeding to help get milk to the baby. It may help to try some
different positions. Sometimes the football hold lets you really "unfold the
breast and nipple" into the baby's mouth.
If this is still not effective, I wonder if a nipple shield might help. You
mentioned that the baby sucked well on a finger, so perhaps the nipple
shield would stimulate that same good suck.
