Swaddling, Shushing (loud white noise), Sucking, Swing/Swaying, and
Side/Stomach position.
When Harvey came to see me at the AAP conference last October, I wouldn't
let him leave before demonstrating in person ;)
Nice guy, he is.
Actually, I am quite a fan of swaddling with the arms down, something I did
not advocate during my first several years of practice. I teach a similar
swaddle to my clients (I call it the "super swaddle") and it really works
well to "center" and calm a baby, and decreases the Moro reflex which is
what tends to wake them up. There was a great research article on this a
year ago... I'll find it and post here.
