I have found that most peope are very, very reluctant to even consider
using a supplementer. I am not sure why, but a lot of people just seem
to consider them almost bizarre.
Also, I too am bothered by the assumption of many people that a pump is
a necessary item for a breastfeeding mother to have. I used a pump when
I was at work two nights a week, but with my first child, I just planned
time away from her for times when she had just nursed or I knew she
would be asleep for a few hours. I also learned how to hand express if
I just wanted a little milk on hand, which is another thing (that has
been discussed here before) that many people just dismiss as a method of
milk removal.
Except for my job, which I started when my oldest was a toddler, I just
don't spend a lot of time away from my babies when they are very little.
This never seemed like a big hardship for me or my husband. That time
goes so quickly anyway.
