Dear Lyla,
A tiny piece of retained placenta no larger than the tip of your
little finger *can* produce enough hormones to prevent a mother from producing a
drop of breastmilk. But it is not always that way. I knew a mother of twins
with significant amounts of retained placenta, but she had all the milk her
twins needed. As with most things, the effect of RPF can be found along a
continuum between severe effect and no effect on milk production.
