Hi All,
We have a mom who delivered here 4 weeks ago, mom's breasts firm and high, babe with high palate, recessed chin. They have miraculously managed to exclusively breastfeed in spite of the anatomical mismatch. (being born intervention-free in our baby-friendly birth center and getting consistent IBCLC support probably helped!!) Mom is very good at obtaining optimal latch and has some comfortable feeds. She has given me permission to post requesting new ideas for obtaining a better latch. Mom has tons of milk and over-active letdown on right side, babe has gained > 1oz per day consistently. The only problem is persistent tender nipples throughout feeds and a bruised feeling between feeds.
I observed a "perfect" feeding today and noticed that babe's upper lip is one huge sucking blister, not just in the center but the whole upper lip. Any ideas for "fixing" the upper lip and getting a more comfortable latch for both mom and babe? I am quite spatially challenged and having a hard time visualizing an effective modification for this kiddo.
Thanx,
