I'm back posting again, sooner than expected, for a sad reason.
37 year old mother of two, youngest a toddler, diagnosed this week with
ovarian cancer. 3 weeks chemo, one session a week; then surgery, then another 6
weeks chemo, then we'll see, is the plan as of now. First chemo is tomorrow.
Toddler has still been nursing, though not a lot (don't know exactly how
much). I know chemo really and truly contraindicates bf. But can she pump for a
while, if she has the stamina, or even just stop but try to pick up again
later, or does she really need to consider this child weaned? or what factors
would the answer depend on?
Also, aside from the chemo, are there hormonal issues in ovarian cancer in
particular that make it either desirable or undesirable to keep lactating?
Anything else she should know?
Thanks for any wisdom. I will try to read the archives for a few days to
catch discussion but if you could copy me privately it would be very helpful.
