Hi Everyone:

Reintroduction: I rarely post, but am an RN, volunteer, doula, and sitting
for IBCLC exam this summer. However, I am writing because of an experience I
had today at conference for work. I was in Baltimore, about 2 hours from home
at a large hotel in Inner Harbor. I was assured that pumping during my lunch
wouldn't be a problem. However, when I asked the front desk I was told that
there would be a $50.00 charge! What? Anyway, I told him that I could not
pump in the bathroom, I needed electricity and wouldn't anyway due to sanitation
reasons. After getting nowhere with him, I went back to talk to the wait
staff and they said that there was another open conference room not being used at
the moment, and although they couldn't give me permission to use it without
paying, they couldn't prevent me from using it either. So I went in and pumped.

Now, what are other experiences? I would like to work with my company during
future conferences(we are an all female company for the most part) and want
to avoid problems. Apparently, there was another woman there trying to find a
place to pump who ended up leaving during lunch. The company isn't willing to
pay for a space to pump for only a few women. Also, I would like to write an
education letter to this hotel (a large chain) and would like some input into
wording, context, etc. Please email me privately as well as to the list.
Thanks for all the help!

Barb Cavanaugh RN, BSN, doula, IBCLC2B
