Dear Nathalie, Hopefully you can educate moms to ask what meds are for and
what their side effects are. I think we have more awareness of that in US,
but some people are very complacent and if Dr says take this and wean, they
do :-(

Mamy years ago, when I had my first baby (she's 44 :-( a specialist yelled
at me for not knowing what a medicine was that I was dutifully pouring into
my baby. He told me in no uncertain terms to always know the name of the
med and what it does. I've repeated that many times over the years to
parents (in a nicer way :-)

If baby has GERD (and most babies do to a certain extent :-) and has no
other symptoms (Sx) but spitting up a mouthful here and there, I tell mom
she has a laundry problem, not that the baby has a "medical" problem!
Medical problems would be indicated by poor weight gain or
breathing/wheezing kind of problems or a baby that is just never settled,
always seems uncomfortable.

Sometimes spitting up is an indication that mom may have an oversupply
problem or a very strong letdown. There are ways to tinker with these 2
problems. Nurse a longer time on first side or nurse on one side for 4-6
hours, then use other side for a similar period of time. This can tamp down
the supply a tad. Some hand expressin can start the let-down before mom
puts baby to breast.
