If public breastfeeding can only be accepted/preserved by being called
discreet and covering up both babys mouth and moms nipple under a shawl
or receiving blanket it seems we are volunteering to make a burka for
ourselves. Then we can all argue how much to cover up
and perhaps condemn one another. Tongue in cheek, but I bet formula
companies love the pro/con public BF statements quoted by women and even
men in the press. Its called divide and conquer.

When we tap into the mindset that breastfeeding should be practised
discreetly and modestly (only in secret behind closed doors, behind
nappies/shawls/special nursing clothes which cover every inch of bare
skin so as not to offend anyone) IMHO we simply perpetuate the attitude
that there must be something shameful and not-quite-nice about it.
