Cholestasis resolves with delivery, so it won't affect your mom's bf. She
won't need to take anything for it once she has her baby. It is assoc
w/late term stillbirths. The best article I've found on it (having had it
w/2 out of 3 children) is "Fetal Mortality Associated w/Cholesasis of
Pregnancy and the Potential Benefit of Therapy with Ursodeoxycholic Acid,"
by M. H. Davies, et. al, Gut 1995; 37: 580-584. You can get this report
from MedScape. Ursodeoxycholic acid's trade name is Actigall. My first OB
tried Questran (cholestyramine) and it didn't help at all; I think it takes
a few weeks to begin to work (I took it about two weeks).

Many drs still believe it is a benign condition & are unaware of its
correlation w/stillbirths. There is a perinatalogist here who is very
familiar w/this condition & feel free to contact me off list if you'd like
his name for this mother or her physician.

The itching this condition causes is indescribable and it is almost
impossible to sleep:-((
