I received a response today from the director of the pregnancy care center
in my area that was distributing the bottles through local churches. I
wanted to share some excerpts with you.
"Thank you for your letter. We appreciate your concerns and have
prayerfully considered your thoughts concerning our Baby Bottle Blitz.
I breast fed (sic) both of our sons. I was and continue to be a very strong
proponent of breast feeding (sic), and I agree with all of your reasons for
promoting breast feeding with young moms. We do encourage our clients to
consider breast feeding, and it is a constant source of frustration to me
that they most often choose bottles and formula."
She goes on the explain the use of the bottles, that they are convenient and
eye-catching and very successful as a fundraiser and "until we come up with
an appropriate substitute, we will probably continue using the
bottles-especially as we have invested money in the containers."
She ends with an invitation for me to educate (her words) their clients and
volunteers on the physical and emotional advantages of breastfeeding and
offers to schedule a class.
So, while I would have much preferred that she wrote and confessed the error
of their ways and vowed to pulverize all bottles ;-) at least I'll have the
opportunity to provide some information!
Still haven't heard from Wee Witness.
Kathy
