Because of allergies and asthma, I am extremely prone to getting infections, and a few thoughts occurred to me regarding prevention of mastitis.  I am unaware of birthing procedures in your part of the world, but if this is to be a hospital birth, it might be helpful to be especially cautious about infection control in her room - make it a "safe zone" - everyone entering washes hands, limit visitors, etc.  Also, if antibiotics are used during the birth, it might be useful to follow up with a full course, so as not to allow resistant bacteria to thrive.  If the mother does have any issues with allergies, keeping the allergens well under control can help to avoid infection.
