After looking over the posts about an ad on e-bay it seems the subject has
been exhausted. The thread has also contained some posts that may well have
overstepped the civility limit, to the point that subscribers have contacted
us to express their discomfort with the tone of them. In the confusion, we
have come close to 'convicting' a cherished LN subscriber through guilt by
association, and there IS no association. Please check your sources before
posting, especially when third parties are involved. Hearsay is not proof,
and conjecture is not fact. We've been busy trying to put out the last fire
here, and haven't been able to keep up. Herding cats was a good analogy,
Jo-Anne.
We've had a number of discussions here before about credentialing, and if
you are interested in reading what has been said, please refer to the
archives, because that subject has been dealt with in abundant detail
previously. If, after reading the archived posts, you feel you have
something new to add, you are welcome to post on it.
For the record: Lactnet is not related to e-bay. Lactnet does not make the
rules for e-bay. Lactnet has not taken on the task of protecting the people
who shop on e-bay from spending money on whatever they want. Lactnet does
not make the rules for how to become an IBCLC. Lactnet does not run courses
about how to pass The Exam, nor make rules for how such courses should be
run. Lactnet does not sell anything nor is it to be used as an advertising
medium. Lactnet is an e-mail discussion list that is run by volunteers so
that persons working at helping mothers to breastfeed, can communicate
quickly, productively and above all POLITELY with one another.
We suggest that if you still have strong feelings about e-bay, you let e-bay
or whoever is purveying their services there, know, and leave it at that.
This thread is not serving the purpose of improving the care given to
breastfeeding mothers and their children, because no amount of discussion on
Lactnet can affect e-bay.
