I think it is called "referenced pain" or something like that - it just
means the same nerve endings are involved.... On this woman they happen to
be her tongue - I think more women notice it in their back. It doesn't have
to just be with breastfeeding - it anytime someone feels pain or a stab of
pain in another spot other than where the stimulus is occurring.
Remind her not to lean over when she nurses, if you speak to her again.
Instead she should bring the baby up to her - using pillows if necessary.
