I know that Winnie has had good experience with this method, however, I
want to caution to those who are suggesting it to the family.
One mom in my La Leche League support group reported that her baby was
latching on and hurting lately - and this baby was now over 4 weeks old, so
it seemed unusual to me. Luckily, this group was a "fathers welcome" group
in St. Louis. I observed during the meeting that while the mom seemed to
breastfeed on cue, in fact, Daddy would use his knuckle to postpone the
breastfeeding ... because mom was getting a snack...because mom was getting
her bra undone, etc. I asked if this was their usual pattern, and they
said yes. I suggested he not do this - or if he had to (mom is in the
shower and will be right out), allow baby to suck his finger in deeply, pad
side up. They reported the latching problem was gone in a couple of days.
