I think there is a big difference between private practice and
employed LCs. In the case of private practice, I agree completely
with Catherine W-G's response. In fact, I know some PPLCs actually
do some bartering - that is exchanging their services for a service
the client can offer the LC in lieu of monetary payment..
With those of us who are hospital based or working for a medical
practice or agency, then we are bound by whatever limitations our
employer established through policies etc. I think this discussion
has reminded some of us (me at least) that these limitations must
also be applied to the gifts given by formula companies. Right now
there is a dinner being offered by a formula company which sounds
pretty expensive, so I'll try to check out whether it exceeds the
limits. I am especially angry that the meeting was posted without
any indication of who is sponsoring it! It is only because one of
our LCs saw the salesman (I don't like calling them "reps" -sounds
too mild) put out the flyers that we know they are behind it.
