Since encouraging BF in the first half hour is one of the 10 steps to
successful breastfeeding (as defined by the WHO/UNICEF Baby-Friendly
Hospital Initiative), check the UNICEF references, or the BFHI references.
Actually, it should have been those who drove the first wedges between
mothers and their newborns by separating them routinely, who documented the
safety of this radical intervention in normal mammalian behavior. As with
so much in maternity care, that didn't happen. But we do have references
for how early contact affects BF, and you will find them as supporting
documents for BFHI.
