It is hard to be diplomatic, yet honest when a mom plans to use
something we see so many have problems with.  This applies not only
to pumps, but schedules, positions etc.  In regard to pumps like the
Evenflo, I usually tell her that some moms do report they have
worked for them and I can't cite what percentage that is.  However,
the vast majority who call having problems with pumping are using
that style of pump.  The ones who report it works for them are
usually moms with well-established milk supplies and effectively
nursing babies.  Most moms in situations like hers find that the
"hospital grade" pumps are most effective.
You can't please all the people all the time, and no matter how we
present information, some are going to take it wrong.  My supervisor
is one who would say, in a situation like the one you described,
"No, it's not how the patient interprets what you say.  It's that
you said it wrong!"  This is so frustrating!
