Sally, I found your post very interesting. At this point, I see the
changes that are slow, and the high resistance to evidence based
practice prevalent in the practice of those who are often in "charge" of
providing professional care for bf dyads. The resistance has something
to do, I believe, with caregivers' own breastfeeding beliefs and
experiences. Often, the science of breastfeeding has very little to do
with professional practice because people cannot or will not change
their practice to fit with evidence ..this then challenges their own
parenting...which is too scary and threatening. Hence outdated,
ineffective and damaging practice, but the ego of the care provider is
protected.
