" Regarding HBLCs referring to PPLCs, this can be a dilemma if there is
lack of confidence in the PPLC. (And I know that there are hospital LCs
in whom some Private LCs do not have confidence.) In my case, there is
one located in the same general area as the hospital, but feedback from
moms who have worked with this LC are frequently negative. (The person
in question is IBCLC.) I have had personal concerns about this
individual coming across with very confusing, sometimes judgemental
comments. This LC frequently begs us to refer any patients that prefer
home visits to coming in to see us as outpatients. If we were to give
moms a list of local resources, I could not, in good conscience, include
this person. On the other hand, there is at least one other LC, further
away, that I have referred moms to on an individual case basis. To hand
out a list with one and not the other would really open a can of worms
and possible leave the hospital open for charges of "favoritism".
Concerned LC who wishes to remain anonymous for this post for obvious
reasons. "
