Dear Libby,
How unfortunate you can't find a dr. to help your moms. That stinks! What
about a sympathetic, pro-breastfeeding pediatrician? I've had two of these
myself, and they were far more painful than thrush, sore nipples, plugged
ducts, etc.. I tell mothers, "see your HCP to open this, or some moms do
it themselves with a sterile needle." Then it's up to them. I can only say
experientially that nursing, rubbing, etc. would not have opened mine. I
lanced them myself and experienced immediate relief (as well as milk
literally squirting out the opened duct)!
Warmly,
Anna Swisher, MBA, IBCLC
