I've been a participant in on-line discussions for almost fifteen years. All the best groups have dedicated volunteers who know when to let the discussion drift and when to call time if it has gone too far or become too heated. The groups where flame wars crop up daily are destructive places to be, wearing on everyone's nerves, and with good reason to unsubscribe. List Moms set guidelines and require members to abide by them. In some cases, the List Mom is willing to banish those who don't abide by the guidelines. Funny those are some of the most dynamic, interesting and useful lists I've ever belonged to.
This is such a strong, supportive group. We have many viewpoints and many approaches and that diversity -- not the agreement -- is part of the dynamic that makes this such a great resource and an interesting place to be. Thank you to Kathleen and Kathleen for moderating it, and for setting guidelines that are more than reasonable. As Jo-Ann said, it must be a lot like herding cats <g>.
