LuAnn you said "Now, because we focus on seeing those that are in need and
because there are so many mothers and babies who are "needy" what I miss
most is seeing the joy of babies doing well at the breast on a daily basis."

You are so right. Again, this is becoz of the baby unfriendly hospt envt and
mother/baby separation as you so well described all the procedures that keep
them apart.

Do you teach prenatal bf classes? I find they are helpful and empower many
moms to use good bf practices like room in etc. Could you implement a
lunchtime or morning or afternoon bf drop-in session, like a support group
or lunch bunch at your hosp? Gradually changing the hosp policies is helpful
too but generally a very frustrating journey. Implementing mother/baby care
is a very good thing. But again that is usually not an easy thing to put in
place.

I put articles or news/magazine items up all the time or leave them in the
lounges. I usually just put FYI or "this is a very interesting article" and
leave it for the staff. Not only about bf but about mother friendly things
in the labor and delivery areas. It really has made a difference.
Periodically meeting for a lunch if possible or a coalition mtg with other
LCs to share strategies/vent helps too.
