wow, thank you so much all the comments and links and articles. i wish
everyone could read at least all that i've read - than they'd all want to
breastfeed, no, not just breastfeed but nurse. mother at the breast,
co-sleep, comfort not just transfer calories...

when i want to promote breastfeeding i automatically think i need to talk
about the benefits, hazards of formula, health effects etc. but for
breastfeeding to really work, the culture has to change. bottle feeding
fits so well into today's post industrial revolution world - women working,
wanting time to themselves, wanting babies to be independent, etc. etc.
even when a mother does decide to breastfeed it is just that, and she may go
about it the bottle culture way ie schedule, sleep alone, limit at the
breast, etc etc. it's just so unfair to these little babies. as james
mckenna says - the pre-historic baby is the space age baby. how do we
promote the lifestyle that more enhances nursing thus making it more normal
(not optimal) and more desired and acceptable????
there have been so many times when i've been working with a mother and the
baby finally achieves the ultimate latch and i practically have tears in my
eyes and not more than a minute passes and they ask me when they can
introduce a bottle? books like "the baby whisperer" by tracey hogg (sounds
like the ezzo stuff i've read about on this site), are feeding into this
bottle culture - giving the parents what they want - it's driving me mad.

i've made a nice little package and will take it to work and i really hope
it's read and open's some eyes to what is a fight to preserve life!!!
