Baby is 1 month old, breastfeeding going well acc. to mother. Their doctor
called me puzzled because mom has breast pain/soreness/tenderness with no
signs of nipple damage/soreness, no redness or swelling, no localized pain,
no fever. Pain is described as fairly constant (not shooting, stabbing or
just during nursing/letdown). As far as I know, no thrush risk
factors/symptoms.
Mother started some pumping 2 wks postpartum, bottles given by others, pain
did apparently start about then. Abundant supply, baby drains one breast
better than the other, mother tends to get engorged in between.
At a guess she may be pumping more than necessary given her supply level
and bringing in more milk than needed, but I am not used to seeing pain
along with this.
I am about to leave on vacation so inst. of first calling mother then
asking you all, I am firing off this note now.
Please respond to me privately as I have to go nomail.
Thanks!
Elise
