Hi All
This is my first post to lactnet, though I have been lurking for some time.
I am an RN,Midwife,Child & Family Health Nurse & IBCLC;recertified at 10
years & amazed myself ( I'm sure that lactnet helped me there).I love
feeling connected to all these wonderful people from all over the world,
who are so supportive of breastfeeding.I love hearing all your stories &
different perspectives on lactation issues. It makes the world seem like a
much smaller place & our differences so unimportant. We are truly lucky to
have the opportunity to help women, babies & their families in the many
ways we do.
Some info from a local paper on vit D,suggests 10 minutes of sun a day(or
15-20 minutes 3 times a week) on the face ,hands & arms/legs.This is from
the chief executive officer Dr Andrew Penman of the Cancer Council &
Associate Professor Terry Diamond of St George Hospital. For Dark
skinned, elderly in residential care & veiled women ,it says to double the
time. They are going to put out a joint statement about it.The article said,
that 90% of our vit. D needs are met by the sun.
Apparently the "Slip,Slop,Slap" campaign has been working too well(some say)
& a quarter of Australians are vit .D deficient.(Dont know where they got
that from). That deficiency could apparently, be passed from mothers to
newborns,.No direct mention of breastfeeding.
